Indecision can be a big problem, especially when it comes to buying a new car. If you are someone who hates popular SUVs, but appreciates their capabilities, and instead you prefer a family classic, the Subaru Outback is the perfect crossover for you, combining the best of both worlds.

Five generations have already been marketed since 1996, and they have always been derived from the family version of the Subaru Legacy, a D-segment saloon that has no longer been sold in our country for years. Among the direct rivals of this crossover is the Volvo V90 Cross Country, located a notch above when it comes to refinement.

Externally, there is no doubt that we are facing a car whose origin comes from a family body, such as the Subaru Levorg. At the same time, it uses aesthetic elements that are reminiscent of the Subaru Forester, such as the raised body and the entire lower area of ​​it protected by plastics.

It should be remembered that the current Outback is an update of the version available since 2014, although the changes made aesthetically are so minimal that it is difficult to differentiate them. The changes have focused on the front, as usual. The highlight here are the new optics, sharper and with new lighting technology.

The bumper is also new, with the protective plastics now covering the lower grill, while the main grill modifies its framework, losing chrome along the way. The rest of the changes are even more subtle, such as the new wheels, rear bumper and taillights.

Cabin

If we settle inside, it will happen to us as in the rest of the models of the Japanese firm. We will feel at home from the first moment, with all the controls located where it plays and a remarkable quality. A more detailed look reveals that, despite the similarity with the other rooms, this one stands out.

While others like the XV and Impreza share its interior, the Subaru Outback is unlike any other, since, as we anticipated, it is based on the Subaru Legacy, a car developed for other markets and whose crossover version we have had the pleasure of. to receive in our country.

Technique

As in the rest of the firm’s models, the Subaru Outback makes use of the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive all -wheel drive in all its versions, regardless of the mechanics and transmission. As for these, they are the same that we also find in other models, with the exception of the manual gearbox, a rare sight.

Both diesel and gasoline are based on four-cylinder boxer blocks, 2.0 and 2.5 respectively, which offer 150 and 175 hp and a maximum torque of 350 and 235 Nm each. Depending on the selected engine, we will have access to certain elements, such as LPG and the six-speed manual gearbox.

The conversion to LPG is only available on the 2.5 engine (+ 1,750 euros), while the manual gearbox can only be combined with the diesel engine. Even so, it depends on the finish, and it is that of the three available, you can only choose the first two. The rest are satisfied with a CVT of seven relationships.

Rates

As usual, the Subaru Outback also benefits from a promotion that subtracts 3,000 euros from official prices, and 8,000 euros in the case of the highest trim in combination with the diesel engine. This reduction leaves us with a base price of 29,900 euros, in Sport finish and diesel engine.

Just above are the Executive and Executive Plus finishes . It is precisely the Sport and Executive with diesel engine that are the only ones available with manual transmission. If your preference is gasoline, the Sport is available from 30,500 euros.
